Biography

James Madsen, Esq. is a Pennsylvania attorney practicing in Northampton, Lehigh, and Monroe Counties. He engages in general, holistic representation across a number of legal practice fields. His experience includes preliminary hearings, trials, appeals, and argument before Pennsylvania appellate courts; each matter depends on its own record and governing law.

Before entering private practice, James trained with the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, the Defender Association of Philadelphia, the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender, and through a fellowship with the Northampton County Office of the Public Defender. Since opening his private practice, he has defended clients in Northampton, Lehigh, Monroe, Carbon, Berks, and Philadelphia Counties.

James was born in Flemington, New Jersey, but spent most of his adult life in Easton, Pennsylvania.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from The American University in Washington, D.C.  James attended American University on an academic scholarship and studied the inner workings of local, state and federal government along with international relations.   James received his Juris Doctor from Drexel University School of Law where he attended under a Law Trustees' Scholarship with an emphasis on public service.

In his spare time James enjoys travel, amateur bodybuilding, gardening and continuing education.

  • Successfully had client's robbery conviction overturned by Pennsylvania Superior Court based upon insufficient evidence and errors made by the trial judge resulting in client's immediate release from custody and barring of any retrial (2014)
  • Successfully achieved reinstatement of client's appellate rights due to ineffectiveness of his prior attorney (2015)
  • Successfully client's conviction overturned due based upon unconstitutional criminal statute (2016)
